Our Story

Turning Point is a small family run business who are big on heritage, spanning three generations the age-old tradition has been pasted down along with the extensive knowledge, tools and tried and tested methods.

Husband and wife team Andrew and Felicity create everything from their small workshop at their home and smallholding on the South West coast of Devon alongside their daughter Jo-Anne. Felicity’s father Peter began woodturning as a hobby before it quickly evolved into his sole business from his workshop near Inverness in Scotland with his wife Kay finishing all the products and even painting her own pictures and drawings onto lampshades that were sold alongside their lamps! When Peter sadly passed away Felicity inherited all the tools and lathes, then with a little hire van and lots of heavy lifting by hand Andrew and Felicity moved everything southwards to their family home in Devon. Over the years Andrew has refined his woodturning in order to produce the level of work he creates today, to begin with he used tips and tricks from Peters handwritten notes before adding his own fine tweaks as his experience grew.

Having now wood turned for over 20 years and completed work for a variety of joiners, hotels, castles and national trust properties as well as various home accessories and decorations for the general public Andrew is now teaching his daughter Jo-Anne (and maybe one day he will even teach his 2-year-old twin grandsons too!). Felicity remains at the head of the finishing process, sanding, waxing and polishing ensuring each item that leaves the workshop is finished to the highest possible standard all while keeping everything as natural as possible to ensure the grain of the wood speaks for itself.
